Ladies/Gents,

I trying to get a feel for peoples opinions with regards gas tester training for confined space entry. The company that I am with at the moment as an in house assessment program to deem personnel as being competent to undertake this task, but the assessors have not completed a formal training course themselves, so in my opinion this would negate any assessment with regards to competency.

In my opinion, best practice for this critical role would be attendance at an approved training establishment, who would give a better level of training and at a level that is reconised throughout industry.

Question is, can In house training for such critical roles be justified as acceptable, without approval from a recognised body.

Were your "in-house" personnel provided with suitable demonstration by the manufacturer/supplier of the specific tester? This is often where ALL new equipment training starts.

If you can access other training records see how many external certificates actually state the provider / issuer considers the recipient "competent to....in accordance with..." as that is the crux of your post.

Personally I can only locate one single document from reams of course certificates obtained over the decades most others being issued for "attendance" usually as justification of the providers invoice.
