Hi All,
Bit of guidance please.
If I have a containerised generator (1250Kva) with a 2500ltr day tank inside the generator canopy fed by fuel transfer system from an external bulk tank, will I need a DSEAR Assessment in place?
Thanks in advance Edited by user 15 January 2019 11:37:31(UTC)

Strictly - yes you will. If diesel fuelled - diesel is a dangerous substance as defined under DSEAR. I would expect the assessment to be quite simple and straightforward though.

Yes you will need to undertake a DSEAR risk assessment, for the reasons stated below:
"Some substances are obviously hazardous to safety, other substances might be hazardous only under certain conditions. Flour dust can form an explosive atmosphere, and liquids such as diesel fuel can be raised above their flashpoint temperature by work activities and present a fire or explosion risk. When carrying out hazardous area classification, relevant properties of a dangerous substance include the boiling point and flashpoint of any flammable liquid, and whether any flammable gas or vapour that may be evolved is lighter or heavier than air.
The upper flashpoint for flammable liquid has been increased from 55 °C to 60 °C. The changes mean that for example, diesel is now classified as a flammable liquid."
