Hi,

I am due to attend a FAT for new collaborative robots on behalf of a client and they are new technology within the company so do not have any specific FAT documentation. I am aware and have referred to some of the recent regulations regarding design of safety circuits for Cobots, but do not want to have a full copy of this to enable me to carry out a basic safety assessment/Risk assessment.

Does anyone have something more user friendly or maybe point me in the right direction were I could find a summarised version of regulations and safe use of Cobots?

Many thanks

Hi Steve,

Sorry, what is a FAT?

Apologies, it's a factory acceptance test

Steve,

The primary issue with Cobots is that the document from ISO is a TS and not a full standard, plus HSE do not recognise it.

I am due to be doing a full CE assessment on a cobot cell early next week for an integrator, the cell is going into a FMCG manufacturer in the Wiral area.

For this one we have gone by the EM robot standard, the TS, and the B-Type standards, and we have looked in depth at the hazards and done risk assessments and implemented mitigation in the design to limit the risks to what we feel is ALARP, and documented this based on the EHSR's.

It's quite engineering biased and we have been involved in 2 design reviews to date, and the integrator has done full 13849 validations etc. so hopefully the end user will be happy with the result.

Now, the timing of this is uncanny, so as long as it isn't the same cell then perhaps I can help, otherwise would it be a conflict of interest!...

Perhaps best discussed by PM.

p.s. FAT = Factory Acceptance Test.

Might be one for you to go on Steve ...

Are TUV still running that?

I know a few of the ex-directors of Laidler from before they were taken over by TUV SUD.  I work quite cosely with one of them.

Me from an Engineering background I did the NEBOSH GC from the H&S side, as I specialise in electrial and machinery, I did the TUV Nord CMSE course to get something formal, but tbh, they all just scratch the surface, I find it's the understanding of the equipment the standards and the EHSR's from an engineering point is the best route for machinery, but, then I would coming at it from that angle! ;)
