Posted By Trudy Clements I am in the process of starting up as a Consultant working for myself and would be grateful for any advice from members in a similair situation.
I am particulary looking at Professional Indemnity Insurance and a good, cost effective provider.
I have vast experience in enforcement, training (NEBOSH, IOSH, CIEH and bespoke), private sector(retail)and consultancy and feel now is the time to make a move or I may regret it. (May regret it anyway, but at least I will have had a shot!!)
Direct e-mails would be appreciated.
Many Thanks.
Trudy

Posted By Linda Crossland-Clarke Double check exactly what you want now and may want to change later on before signing up. I used one that advertises in SHP. However when I wanted to add employers liability onto my purchase at a later date they wouldnt do it. nor would they increase my PL coverage upto 2 mill for an exhibition for a fixed period. Buy cheap, buy twice.. so check this out before hand. Linda

Posted By Bob Youel Hi. I was self employed for many years before taking a PAYE post and I still run a small business.
Insurance has always beeen a sore point - I do not know any good providers - you will have to evaluate as you go
One point you need to know about is the fact that policies are usually run from year to year - should something happen during the course of the year you may be covered - i.e. car cover -cover is only accepted for something happening in the cover year/period.
You need to question what happens when you have moved insurance provider and a problem arrises from a previous year and previous provider. Or indeed you have not moved provider but problem was from other than the current year. Who covers the incident etc.
You can try to get the clients insurence to cover you - I have in the past and it was OK.
