I am a full Corporate Member of IOSH, I have ten years experience in senior positions( e.g. manager, Group Manager), I am 55 years old
I was made redundant on the 31st October 2002. since then I have applied for over 200 positions, I have had a scant response from these applications and have attended 20 interviews, which I have been unsucessful
on the grounds that I do not have the "correct" experience.
I thought that H & S transcended all functions of business similar to accountancy.
Is there any one out there who can assist me in my quest to re establish myself in employment.
my e mail is brycesloan@hotmail.com
my phones are 01698 374163(H)and 07931 164001(mobile)
My address is
The White House
134 Hill Street
Wishaw
Lanarkshire ML27AS
Scotland
I would prefer to remain in Scotland, however, i would be prepared to relocate for the right position and employer.
Thanks in advance to any sympathetic reader of this thread.

Well! anyone want to revisit my previous thread of (ageism) sounds like a good case to me. (Oh yes I see you have many years experience then! however I'm sorry but you have the wrong kind of experience) What sort of answer was that!
with the exeption of specialist industries like chemical & off shore ect. health and safety does cover all industries and your experience is of great value to any forward thinking, none dicriminatory employer.
Good luck and best wishes, if you can hang on long enough (2006) the government is promising new age descrimination laws. But as usual the employer will come up with yet more ways to dodge the issue.
There are stacks of jobs this week for people like you on Monster jobs so make sure you sign up! Also Taylor woodrow are recruiting and have two positions One senior (RSP)and the other safety advisor MIOSH

Come on Mike, there is no way you can make such a sweeping judgement from that posting that ageism is the root cause.

Have a look at website oilcareers.com and go to the safety site (you will probably have to register, which is free). Recruiters Melville Craig are looking for an HSE advisor in Aberdeen. Also you can arrange to have new job advertisements sent to you by email. If you have already seen this website my apologies for notifying you.
Good Luck
