Posted By Gary Bennett Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone could help? Has anyone been on this course,(University of Paisley Diploma in H&S) if so how would you rate it? Does it really make a difference if the course is not a NEBOSH course with potential employers? Thought's and views appreciated. Gary.

Posted By david baird Gary, I took the MSc course and it can be split into two strands - one where lecturers from the University took the subjects (law, environmental economics, etc) these were very good and informative. The other side was that they wheeled in (good intentions and not all of them to be fair)who frankly should not have been there. For example, lecturing on safety culture / behaviour when there are students with degrees in psychology on the course saying this guy has not got a clue what he's talking about. Externals lecturing to Masters level with no degree of any sort themselves, with obscure letters after their name nobody in the room knew about. Its maybe changed now (this was ten years ago)but the students at the time were very upset at the calibre of some of the externals. Again I say not all (some were ex HSE and were excellent). I was fortunate to get a post in HS despite the handicap and one of the first things I completed was another higher level qualification (PhD), at a different univeristy to distance myself academically from it. I could go on, but you get the picture. (I'm upset cos it cost a fortune at the time) Dave

Posted By Robert Paterson Don't know much about the Paisley course. I sent for information about a couple of years ago and I'm still waiting. The Caledonian University does an excellent Diploma course on Health and Safety Managementm which is equivilant to the NEBOSH and can help you attain membership of IOSH. Strongly recommend it. www.caledonian.ac.uk Regards Robert Paterson
