I have just started up a company designing and supplying health & safety documentation. Previous to this I worked in a similiar position for 5 years supplying Health & safety Managers with personalised documentation/H&S software systems.I have a NEBOSH certificate which I gained 3 years ago and I have been asked by a few small companies to advise them on their H&S procedures.Do I need further qualifications to do this and also what insurance is needed?

You don't necessarily need any qualifications to practise H & S but you do need to be competent! All good safety advisers know the limits of their expertise. At the very least, you will need professional indemnity insurance in case you get something seriously wrong and a client sues for recompense; you may also want to consider public liability cover. Of course, if you take on any employees, you must have employer's liability insurance, too.
Good luck in your new venture.

Kirstie,
the information given to you by the previous response seems sound to me.
I am however about to embark on a Consultancy role on my own and I am interested in the documentation/software you may be able to supply. This could benefit the both of us. Do you have a website or catalogue, etc.
My email address is gerry.brady@ntlworld.com or mobile number 07775755424.
Look forward to hearing from you.
