Robert,
I was in that self-same position myself 11 years ago.
Your CV will benefit by removing most of the references to a military career and just putting in the job title.
For example, Team Warrant Officer 519 STRE would change to Team Leader - Specialist Design Team. The role would be "leading a team of design engineers providing services to Government Departments and other clients.
Cheers (and best of luck)
Richard

Sorry but I must disagree with Richards posting to a certain extent. If I were you I would have two CV's one with the military titles and one without. Suss the company out first (by internet or phone call) and make your judgement based on that. The military is considered an honest and respected career by all except the the loony left. I've never been in the armed forces but have worked with and employed ex soldiers whom I have found to be extremely good. I doubt you'd be applying for a job with CND anyway!
One tip - some of the London law firms seem to be particularly supportive of ex-servicemen.
Good luck.

I agree with richard having been out just over 9 years, convert any military refs in your CV into civi equivalents, you will get a better response. Many out there think you've been in limbo and do not know whats going on outside of the forces.

Rob,
You are right that most people who work with ex servicement do think that they are "good guys".
My experience was that most HR people (they tend to be the ones sieving the applications) thought we just ran around with guns shouting bang bang all the time. They don't know about trades and qualifications in the army. I had a lot of rejections until I changed my CV to put the civvie equivalent in, then I got a lot of positive replies.
Cheers
Richard

Richard Green, were you not in Robin Hood, or did you join the Army after that.

Robert,
I have just completed 22 years in REME,
The RFEA came up with three interviews approx 4 months before discharge date.
I got the first job, i would recommend RFEA because the companies who advertise through them, know who and what they are dealing with.
If you want any further info just email me.
Regards Russ

Hi Bob,
I left the REME 12 years ago and had 2 versions of CV. Got a job fairly quickly, using military version, with a Manchester based company.
Went solo 4 years ago and have a great boss.
Best of luck with your search. If you use military CV ensure roles and responsibilities are well explained in, as far as poss, civy terms.
All the best,
Pete

Respondees to this subject - don't assume that Ex Military automatically means Army. There are also many of us out here who served in the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy.
