Posted By Richie I am a MIOSH Safety Adviser at a very large MOD Air-station. I have about 6 years experience as a dedicated H&S adviser and 8 years as a Sergeant Environmental Health Technician in the Army. Oh, nearly forgot, I have a years experience as a H&S inspector for a District Council. The government has just pulled my pension out from under me, and my pay is just over £20K. I was not too unhappy due to the decent pension I was amassing. Now I am unhappy with my lot, and am considering voting with my feet. My question is: Are there employers out there looking for my employment profile? I am not too confident due to my obvious lack of commercial acumen. Grateful for constructive advice. Richie.

Posted By Dave Wilson Richie you old Pongo! EX RN EHT (did mine 85-88 at Keogh one of the first Sailors to do this) and went on to EHO. Trust me when I say you are an extremely marketable commodity buddy, employers out there will snap you up mate and you will have no probs getting work. Problem with serving persons is that they do not have a scooby on life in civvy street and you will have no problems.

Posted By cameron Dear Richie There are loads of Ex Forces in Health & Safety, mainly because they are disciplined, trustworthy, loyal etc and most have safety drilled into them in some shape or form during their career. Don't put yourself down! I left RAF (13 Years) did Cert in 97, have not had time to do any other training since as I have been too busy. 3 years in the CD industry, 2 1/2 years in Formula One and the last 18 months on London Underground. Now set up as sole trader on min 45k. Go for it, talk to people, Network anybody you meet, that's how I got into F1. Regards Ian Cameron
