Posted By joanne doherty ok not quite, but gettin there. I have been searching for my first position in health and safety for nearly a year now, I'm getting the interviews through the strength of my cv, or sheer bloody mindedness ( not sure which)!! but just don't seem to be getting any further. Unfortunately I believe it is my lack of experience that is my downfall, so if there is anyone out there who would like to take on a trainee who is determined, focused and up for anything you can throw at her then please get in touch, my number is 07704 882025. thankyou to all in advance, and by the way i am prepared to move anywhere in the world!!!!

Posted By Nick Higginson Joanne Are you employed at the moment? I got into H&S by volunteering for every H&S job going at work - you find that people are surprisingly happy for you to take H&S duties off them! Kind regards Nick

Posted By joanne doherty yes I am employed, unfortunately on agency basis, I have volunteered for various health and safety jobs including putting all night shift personnel through health and safety course but it isn't getting me very far at the moment.

Posted By Des Daly Joanne, Have you considered working in construction? There some big projects out there that would be ideal place to cut your teeth - so to speak. Try companies like Skanska, Costain, Laing O'Rourke, Mulitplex, the list is big ( you can visit their web sites and register an interest for work). Tell them that you want to work in a construction environment and are willing to come on as an assistant/trainee. Once in contruction you should always find work. Also, as someone who works in HR as well as safety I view persons with no experience and loads of enthusiaism as being well worth an interview. Des Daly
