Hi All,

I'm currently an Environmental Officer in charge of running EMS at two sites (also implemented the systems). I recently passed my NEBOSH Gen Cert and am slowly being given H&S responsibilities.

However, my dilemma is regarding my studies. I am currently doing OU degree in Environmental Studies (5th year with at least 2 after this) to get quals to match my job (wrong way round but |I ain't complaining). I am now considering dropping this to get H&S Diploma or NVQ4. Trying my hardest to weigh up pros and cons but have no-one to discuss this with.

I think that with 5 years Env. experience would a prospective employer prefer that to a degree along with H&S qualifications? I don't think that the degree will get me a better job (end up doing it for my own satisfaction) but that the H&S quals will, along with the much needed pay rise!

Any advice / words of wisdom from anyone would be greatly appreciated :-)

You've answered your own question, I've found that experience it was most employers want, as you have already found qualifications can then follow. Go for further Safety qualifications (suspend your Environmental studies). Good Luck
