I am really struggling to get my break in health and safety, I have my Nebosh certificate, been to various interviews and have had no success as yet, my problem being that my experience is letting me down. Having spent ten years in the pub trade, my experience with regards to health and safety was in the management of.
I am looking to get some more experience in any area, I am based in Northampton and am willing to consider any serious offers, please help me get my experience up to scratch in order to wow my future employers!!

Joanne,
If at a last resort, bend the history of your previous careers to extend the experience that you need. It is a cheap shot, but people do do it to get the breaks you need. How do you think people get on in life. A little creative literature on your CV can't be a bad thing.
If you were to ask any person using this web site and no one of them had used a little creative licence, then I would eat my hat. (Hat needs to be supplied)
Regards

as much as i appreciate your creative solutions I believe that being honest about your experience is paramount, it may take me a little longer to get the first position but at least I know I have done it through sheer persistance.

Hi Wayne, be prepared to eat your hat - not all safety professionals tell porkies on their CV. Joanne, I suggest you consider furthering you Health and Safety education through Continous Proffessional Development (CPD). Meanwhile assess your strengths and weakness in health and safety knowledge and education to focus on what you can offer any future employer. Another method that you can use to gain experience is to offer the Bar Trade the services which you are competent in, for example Risk Assessing. This can be done part time, using the database of bars that you may hold.
Hope this helps!
