Posted By john david evans I know you have all probably heard the same questions over and over again but could someone give me a little help as all the other threads dont really answer my question i have recently left the army and i didnt really think what i would do next, so i've ended up doing some security work, i've been trying to research for a couple of months now on my own as to how's the best way into a career in health and safety, im going to pay and do an IOSH course followed by a NEBOSH course then a possible diploma, but what im after is a possible type of trainee job where i can practice health and safety and gain some experience while still getting my qualifications, or would i be best off just getting my qualifications and then hope to find work. thank you and any help would be much appreciated Dave North Wales/ Chester recce1230@fsmail.net

Posted By Myra Anderson Kelly I came from a mixed but unprofessional and non-health and safety orientated background. I held a BSc in Environmental Science with which I won an assistant Planning Supervisor position. This was fortunate but not entirely unrelated to the fact that I found out about the opportunity as my husband worked with the company! Anyway I have now completed a Postgraduate Certificate Safety and Risk Management and am going on to do the Diploma, I’ve now been in this position for 2 years and was recently promoted so have lost the ‘assistant’. I would advise you to start with NEBOSH. Everyone is familiar with NEBOSH from recruitment agencies to small and large employers, regardless of which levels and or any other equivalent professional course, so I’d suggest you start there. However I’m aware that where you have the qualifications, most will ask for experience, and vice versa. With your army background, I’d suggest a junior planning supervisor post might be right up your street, so look for a post while studying. The best thing is to register with relevant recruitment agencies that can do the looking for you. I’ve sent you the name of one company I’ve found most helpful. Good Luck
