Posted By Ellen The requirement to become MIOSH is the same as to become MSIA (Membership of the Safety Institute of Australia). Although in my experience MSIA is not asked for in job ads here as MIOSH seems to be in job ads there. Education can start with a Certificate - Diploma - Degree & onwards through the universities. Degree or Grad Dip usually asked for but as with everything experience and good references also attractive, depends on the level & salary. Hope this info is of use lots of work here in Oz and not enough candidates.....

Posted By Hazel Harvey Owen, We have has a number of enquiries from members of IOSH wanting to work in Australia. The authorities seem to look at the qualifications that a person holds rather than the category of membership of IOSH. This may change with the implementation of the 'Chartered' status as this is a level that is recognised globally. The chances are you will be recognised at professional level several of our members have already been. The educational standards in Australia are similar to ours in the UK and we have had numbers of Australians joining IOSH recently.

Posted By Paul Going down the skilled migration route the occupation listed to apply under is safety officer. The short answer is NO, NEBOSH Dip 2 level is not enough. The following is an extract from my reply from VETASSESS, the OZ department for assessment of qualifications: . The "Rules" set down for assessing all overseas qualifications are made by the Australian Government National Office for Overseas Skills Recognition (AEI-NOOSR) which is a part of the Department of Science, Education and Training. Vetassess must abide by their rules in all cases. If cases fall outside their published guidelines then Vetassess must seek advice from the authority. 2. The rules state that we can only assess qualifications that are clearly comparable to the educational level of Australian AQF (Australian Qualifications Framework) qualifications. Part of those rules for assessing UK qualifications is whether or not the UK qualification(s) is (are) duely recognised and accredited by the QCA (for Technical Education) or the UK Department for Education and Skills for degree level qualifications. 3. The following general assessment to explain award standards for full AQF Diploma status usually includes both in-depth and breadth of theoretical and practical study, ie there is usually a significant number of different subjects, normally with a duration for the course of at least 800+ hours. 4. In following Australian rules, Vetassess does not make assessments based on the "self-assessments" made by education providers of the level they think their qualification should be assessed at. This would be a dangerous position to take because private opinions do not have the same validity as offical recognition by appropriate authorities. Therefore quoting NEBOSH self-assessments of ther qualifications (after QCA say they do not accredit Diploma qualifications from NEBOSH) is not helpful because these self-aaessments are outside Government guidelines. 5. Vetassess assessors followed the Australian Government rules in assessing your qualifications at the level of AQF Diploma. This is an assessment that is clearly below the level of an Australian Bachelor degree. Even someone who has many more diplomas at NVQ levels 3 & 4, they do not add up to equal the educational level of a Bachelor degree (in Australia) and would only receive an assessment of comparable to AQF Diploma. Vetassess use the official sources set down by the Australian Government authorites, not non-accredited education providers in other countries. Regards
