Posted By Neville Costain I am trying to get my foot on the first rung of the ladder in getting a position in Health & Safety. I am a corporate member, and qualified to diploma level in 2002. I have been a union health and safety officer for eight years covering local authority, and as so have covered many aspects in health and safety. Can anybody give me some advice in which route i should take?

Posted By Helen Horton Look at where you have worked, what you know most about and what you are good at and then start looking for posts that play to your strengths. There have been some good "starter" positions advertised lately in a variety of industries so there doesn't seem to be a shortage of employers out there looking for people to develop. You might find checking the JobCentrePlus website regularly helpful, and contacting a few agencies is always worthwhile. If you have construction experience and knowledge than you shouldn't have any problem but I would recommend that you get yourself trained up as a Planning Supervisor too. Hope this helps.
