I recently returned to my country (Trinidad, W.I.) after completing a M.Sc. degree in Safety Engineering, Reliability and Risk Management at Aberdeen University, Scotland and have been so far unsuccessful in attaining a job. I would like to know how I may be able to gain the necessary work experience that so many safety jobs at home and abroad require. I also have a Nebosh general certificate and would like to pursue the diploma sometime. Can anyone advise me or suggest what I should do to get experience in the Health and safety field? Thanks so much in advance

Ingrid,
This is typical of the way the industry is at the moment. You have a qualification from Aberdeen that is second to none and would be a great asset to any high risk business. But so many employers (other than the high risk environments) have a very poor knowledge of H&S qualifications and ability. Without the magic letters NEBOSH most companies will not even look at your CV!!!!
I have the magic letters, but I want the MSc in Safety Engineering and Risk Management. Ironic, isn't it!!
Good luck, and keep pushing!
