Posted By D.J Hi all This is my first posting so please be gentle with me !!, I was wondering if anyone could offer any careers advice. Basically did my nebosh cert approx 7 years ago, just finished level 6 diploma (waiting for results in April), got approx 8 years relevant H+S experience across various industries, also several other qualifications (dse assessor / manual handling assessor). Looking to further my career and wondered if there was any further qualification worth doing, or is nebosh dip realistically the max that employers would look for? My second option would be to specialise (possibly occ health ish area)and go for relevant qualifications in this area. Sorry for long post but any thoughts anyone. DJ

Posted By Peter Longworth We often see on this forum the "what can I do next" type of thread, as though the accumulation of qualifications merely for their own sake is something to be desired. I think you have got it right in your own post when you say that the L6 diploma or dip 2 are realistically the max that employers look for. You need to ask yourself whether going for an MSc for instance would add any value in the eyes of a prospective employer. I think in most cases it probably wouldn't. As for when you find employment (if you are not already employed) then I believe that training courses connected to the type of work you do would be more suitable. Having said all that, if you intend specialising in occupational health I'm pretty sure that you need to be a qualified nurse or physician first (which you may well be) but I stand to be corrected on that one.

Posted By Alexander Falconer Why not look at doing a specialist environmental qualification - British Safety Council Diploma in Environmental Management was an excellent cours, some also tell me the NEBOSH version is always worth a try too.
