The main qualification you need is the A1 qualification but you could look at the A2 qualification.
A1 - This is the full assessor award for anyone involved in the process of assessing NVQs at all levels. It replaces the old D32 qualification.
A2 - This award is specifically designed for those involved in the assessing of NVQs through observation. It replaces the old D33 qualification.
There is also the L20 assessor qualification, but this is for assessing non-NVQ competencies.
You could also look at V1 which is a verifiers qualification. V1 replaces the old D34 award and is aimed at assessors who are acting in an internal verification role, co-ordination of NVQs and quality control of the whole process.
If you tap in A1 Assessor into a search engine you will finf lots of companies in the UK that offer the training. I did my D32/33 & 34 with a company called Nexus Training, who were very good, but lots out there.

Hi
You will also need to consider what competencies are needed for the area of work you would like to assess in. E.g. You can't assess on the H&S Level 4 unless you have the equivalent or higher qualification, plus relevant experience in the last few years.
