The Agency plays a critical role in protecting people from infectious diseases and in preventing harm when hazards involving chemicals, poisons or radiation occur. We also prepare for new and emerging threats, such as a bio-terrorist attack or a virulent new strain of pathogen. We are seeking an experienced safety advisor with biomedical research laboratory experience to join our busy health and safety team at Porton Down, Wiltshire. Principle tasks are advising research and technical staff on all aspects of health and safety, undertaking inspections and audits, maintaining records and deputising for the Manager of Safety as required. The role includes out of hours on-call and participation in emergency response team. There is also training and development of materials to assist in getting the message over so demonstrable communication skills a must. The successful candidate will have working knowledge of current UK health and safety legislation, biological containment, genetic modification, and biosecurity. Experience in a research or scientific environment will be underpinned with a biological degree and Chartered membership of IOSH or working towards. Able to operate on own initiative and contribute to the team. Able to maintain effective electronic and manual records within the Quality system.
