Hello Tony - I hope you are moving on for more money than that - £20k way undervalues the position!

Should that be a £30,000 instead of the £ 20,000, I pay my Safety assistants (General Certs) between 18 - 20k. . I dont want to be rude but dont expect a lot for your money if you go ahead with your origional sum. I would say 26 - 28k is an ideal starting ground for a first time managerial post

Tony,
are you sure that the salary is £20K? I am from Hull and would like to work within the area but for £20K it would be taking me back 20 years in salary terms, if the salary was around £27-30K I would be interested. What sort of duties does the post holder carry out? Good luck with the position,
regards,
Colin

Hi Tony,
I too live in the Hull area and would be interested if the wage was more around the 27k range + the car.
I prosume the eyms is transport (busses)
Please let us all know if the 20k was a spelling mistake, because as the saying goes 'if you pay peanuts you get monkeys'(even around the Hull area)
good luck!
Chris

I dont think the original thread asked for anybody who thinks this position is underpaid to come foreword with comments, he was looking for people who are interested at that salary, wasnt he?

Interesting responses to a genuine advert!
I have had no opinion so far about the post nor the publicly identified salary, I am genuinely totally non-partisan about it - but I do believe that a posting on this, or other IOSH Forums has to be ready to receive adverse observations as well as positive ones - provided that they are constructive.
The publicly expressed dissatisfaction of potential candidates to the offered salary should give the potential employer pause for thought at the very least; and, if they wish to proceed at that salary must ensure that the candidates are genuinely of the calibre required. This will naturally be heavily dependant on the actual scope of the post and the accompanying responsibilities and we cannot pre-judge the offered salary without reliable knowledge of that.
Perhaps this potential employer and others in similar positions would be better advised to seek impartial [the adviser/consultant has no interest in the post to be filled] external advice and guidance on the post and accompanying salary to ensure that there is a demonstrable equivalence between minimum qualifications, determinable competence, and the money.

Once again, I agree with Frank's point of view.
And £20k is low, and the company will struggle to find someone with any experience for that salary. However, it all depends on what the business can afford and the level of duty for the position.
Anyway, good luck in the search for a new employee, and good luck for those applying.
