Posted By Jodie Mills Hello all I am a 22 year old male based in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. I have 6 years construction experience, 4 of which are on site (Plumbing & Heating Engineer), and 2 years Health and Safety Experience. I have obtained the Nebosh Construction Certificate, Iosh Managing Safely Certificate, Site Managers Safety Training Certificate, The Health and Safety Managers CSCS Card, and Various other Health and Safety Qualifications such as:- Scaffold Inspection/ Erection Certificate Asbestos Awareness Certificate Internal Auditor Qualifications Working at Heights First Aid at Work Certificate And various others. I also have City and Guild Qualifications in Mathematics, Communication and I.T. In my last post (Health and Safety Assistant of a Medium Sized Construction Company) I had almost full responsibility of the Health Safety and Welfare of all 110 employees. My duties where:- Assisting the Managing Director in the Management of Health & Safety within the company Maintenance and Contract, Including, Risk Assessments, Method Statements, Coshh Assessments, Auditing, Inspections, Health & Safety Policies/Procedures, Designing Forms, Health & Safety Inductions/Training, Accident Reporting/Investigations, Health & Safety Plans/CDM, involvement in ISO 9001/1401, Issuing of Memos to staff regarding Health and Safety issues, Sourcing Health and Safety Equipment/purchasing. Works include Responsive Maintenance/ Contracts Works. VDU Assessments, Manual Handling Assessments. I was recently made redundant and am now trying to find new employment to further my Career in Health and Safety. I have had a couple of interviews and have applied for various Health and Safety Vacancies around the Midlands area. At the moment I am having no joy due to the fact I am 22 years of age and am seen to be under “experienced”. As this seems to be the case I am totally stuck in a rut Health and Safety Career wise. I must admit I look young for a 22 year old but if someone would just give me a chance I am sure they wouldn’t regret it. I personally don’t see my age as a problem I have more experience in construction than some over 50 year old Health and safety Managers I know, I see my age as an advantage as I am still young and am willing progress my Career and Training as far as possible. If any employers are interested in what I have to offer or if anyone can offer me any constructive advices please contact me on:- 07922006271 01623660931 Thanks a lot Regards Mr Jodie L Mills

Posted By Liam Mc Conalogue Jodie, Most of us all had a bit of hill to climb to get where we are today. I personally got my very first start with a company I telephoned (sourced from a local telephone directory) directly to offer my services. I have a few friends that got their first start with agencies and others with Health & Safety consultancies. Why not give these options a try- get the directory/yellow pages out and give every construction company and H&S Consultancy a ring- it could be a long trawl but if it gets you a start its worth it. All The Best, Liam

Posted By GavinR I have just seen a job posting in the shp magazine and there is a position with Shirley Parsons Associates website for a junior H&S Consultant in the Midlands. They are looking for a graduate but it could be worth contacting them as it is a junior position. Good luck mate.
