Posted By Dave McIness Doesn't the final sentance of the other thread of this title breach AUG No. 2?? Surely they are advertising the commercial services of another organisation. Also why is going to take a year to get another website sorted, why not leave the existing website as it is until the new one is online, this may then give the web developers a bit of an incentive to get a move on rather than dragging it out for another 6 months, or as the case may be a lot longer.

Posted By Neal Clark Hi Dave, SHP is the official professional magazine for IOSH and the thread referred to is simply an announcement (it’s locked). We’ve taken a decision (explained fully in previous threads) to refocus what had become a split service back onto SHP magazine. All we’re doing is providing basic information to enable people to use a service for members in the members’ magazine. Re the timing for the website, as explained in an earlier thread, the effect on our magazine was such that we needed to do something about it now. SHP online is there already and currently offers a recruitment section, so there is no interruption of service. It’s just the future redevelopment of this facility that is being referred to and we expect that to be completed early in the new year. Hope that helps, Neal Clark, Web Co-ordinator.

Posted By Dave McIness Neal I have read your emails and those posted by Ruth Doyle, but like many other members, I do not accept what you are saying and I feel that a valuable member service is being unnecessarily withdrawn due to commercial pressures from the publishers of SHP. The last time I looked at IOSH's annual accounts, they all looked very healthy! Dave

Posted By Ironbath I would like to add my voice to the dissent regarding this ban. What other professional organisation actively hampers the career development of their members? Advertising rates from print media have dropped from all publications for a number of reasons, including the increased use of the internet as a communication/advertising media. The incorrect answer to the problem has been proposed. It is wrong for IOSH to ban the (relatively few) job adverts on the careers forum, as this will not necessarily increase the takings for SHP or SHP OnLine. IOSH must remember that it is a member's organisation and must be very careful when making decisions that reduce the service level for its members. I request that the Council reconsiders this decision, and continue to keep the commercial side at arms lenght from the member services.

Posted By Neal Clark Dave and 'Ironbath' The decision to implement this change to the careers forum has only been made after much careful consideration and discussions with all people involved – members included, and has already been the subject of much discussion on this forum. If you, or any other forum users would like to express further concerns, may I ask that you email us directly at webteam@iosh.co.uk and we will respond to you personally as quickly as possible. This thread has now been locked. Many thanks, Neal Clark, Web Co-ordinator.
