H & S career advice needed - PLEASE HELP!

Hello everyone,
I have been following some of the threads on the forums and as a beginner in the field of H & S I have some of them quite useful, however this is my first time posting so please be gentle with me!
Having worked in construction for roughly 5 years I self-financed and went back to college to sudy NEBOSH Nat Gen Cert in Occ H&S. Luckily for me I got a break within a year and landed a good job working on a decommissioned nuclear site as a Health and Safety Engineer for a contractor. Although this is one hell of a step up from doing admin and a bit of H& S on site, I intend to persevere. I want to carry on training up but am hitting a brick wall when it comes to information (ie do I do NEBOSH diploma or what?). As well as that, the company I work for at the moment is undergoing some serious and fundamental changes so info about training and development is not forthcoming and the chances of the company paying for said training is nil at the mo.
As a young lass trying to make her way in the world of construction and very much wanting to stay here, I'm finding the wealth and breadth of information somewhat bewildering. So I suppose my question to all you people is where do I go next? I have the opposite problem to some of the other threads I have seen posted in that I am getting the experience but feel my training is somewhat lacking.
Any help/guidance/feedback would be appreciated
Thanks

Orla,
as your already working in the field, try the NVQ route, your work is your evidence and the research you do to comply/control etc is your training...
...and I'm sure it wont be long afore a certain assessor tells you where/how/who and what...over to you Linda!

Many thanks for the prompt reply. Just one question (and forgive my ignorance!) who is this Linda and how do I track her down? Sounds like someone I should be talking to.......

If you haven't already, join IOSH and do the CPD. Your experience and individual training records are all worth documenting, don't be shy when submitting them to IOSH when applying for membership / upgrade. Don't get too fixated by this business of "do I need a Diploma / Degree etc" - future employers will be interested in what you can do, your achievements and your breadth of experience.
I am CMIOSH and I "only" have the NEBOSH cert - although I have 15 years of other training and experience which got me the chartered status.
There is a bit of a "closed shop" of vested interests who try to make out that without NEBOSH Diploma (etc etc) you are not professionally legit - this is rubbish, in my view.
Many people completely misunderstand what the term "qualified" meams, by the way.

Orla.
In my experience the best careers advice I received simply came from the Membership Department of IOSH.
They do have a careers advisor in place that is able to help members.
