I am a young man interested in health and safety.Pesently i work as an event steward at the manchester stadium overseeing spectators during matchdays. In my quest to know more about health and safety i registered myself for the CSCS health and safety Test(operative and managers category) which i passed 100%.
i also posses the SMSTS(Site management safety training scheme)certificate eventhough i have no construction experience.Recently, on the 9th of june,i sat for the NEBOSH General certificate and i know am going to do very well and then proceed for the Diploma.
Please can someone tell me where i can get a health and safety job in order to have practical knowledge of all i have learnt theoretically.
I have paid for these courses myself with great enthusiasm to learn so as to be knowledgeable. If i can do this on my own, i know i can do more if i am motivated or mandated by an employer.financial rewards is not my primary reason for going into H&S; am ready to volunteer.
Please someone help me so that my dream will not die,i will ever remain grateful and devoted to whoever lays this foundation for me.
Austin.

How refreshing to find such passion in a posting. I can't directly help you with a job offer but would suggest that you look at all of the websites for H&S jobs; in addition you may want to have a look at:
http://www.healthandsafe...1428c3bd3194d43256fb83bc
It is a very friendly site and you may find interesting links that may take you to first time positions.
Also have a look at: http://www.iosh.co.uk/in...bership.careers_guidance
On this forum.
I wish you well in this quest and DON'T give in if it is really what you want to do. Write also to the local Council Environmental Health department specifically requesting information on becoming an EHO, write also to the HSE, you may find help in that quarter.
Above all else; I wish you well; stick with it, I have no regrets, it is a wonderful career one that I care passionately about, and from what you have said, I think you will as well!
Charley.

Dear Austin
I run a Manchester based safety & risk management business. I'd be quite happy to meet up and see if I can offer you any advice and/or contacts.
You can email me at ian.hutchings@vitasafety.com and I will give you a call.
All the best
Ian

Wrong side of the Pennines unfortunately for my vacancy, but I wish you all the best, you certainly look to have enthusiasm and "get up and go".
I second Charlie's advice - do not give up - I went through 273 different applications for my current job, and that was when I was already employed, but on fixed term status.

Hi Austin, if you read around the forums you will see that they are littered with people trying to get a first foot on the ladder. It is really hard (understatement) and I dropped lucky in being selected on only my 3rd or 4th application. Still, with your level of enthusiasm I don't think quitting will come into it!!
Is it construction you want to get in to? You are more than welcome to come with me for a day and visit the four sites in Manchester that I am responsible for. You can practice your hazard spotting in real life (trust me, there are plenty!) and submit me a report if you fancy it? No money I'm afraid mate (just duplicating something I am already doing in my current job), but if you are any good I will happily provide you with a reference.
PS you will need to have a helmet, boots and reflective coat.
Can't say fairer than that. Email me if you fancy it and good luck with the search.....
Email me if you fancy it, if only somebody had offered

I am indeed very encouraged by the responses i have recieved and am responding to the advice and offers.
I wish to thank you all who have taken time to sort out things for me.I am highly motivated.
At the moment I am actually interested in construction(though i have no choice now) because being a very hazardous activity,I believe I will be greatly challenged as a beginner.
Can Ian Mitchell please send me his email/contact.My email is
nosauki@yahoo.com/Tel - 07946860249.
Thanks.
