Posted By SAF My experience of Recruitment agencies has been very negative so far (including the ones that advertise in SHP) even though they make promises etc! Does anyone have any advice or thoughts to share?

“We'll never make any unfounded promises but we will always do our best to source the right Candidates for the Clients we work with, ultimately not doing this is a waste of yours, the H & S Professionals and OUR time!”

Posted By Dave Wilson I think one of the problems with using recruitment agencies is the expectation of the person looking for the job in relation to how the agency thinks of your suitability, You might think 'Thats a job I can do, get me an interview' and the agency selecting prospective candidates from their data base. Very much the same in when you send in a CV to a prospective employer and get no response.
And the two very very rarely speak unless they think you are suitable for a prospective client.
Very Bad at 1 to 1 communication, that said if they had to communicate with all the people on the books for evry client they have, they would need another dept just to do that at great expense.
Theres a first me defending Recruitment agencies!!!

Posted By garyh Sometimes I believe that agencies put you forward as a candidate knowing that you probably won't get it - they need to provide credible "patsies" so the employer thinks that they have done a good job eg they need to get down to say 5 for interview, theyv'e got a couple of gooduns so they push others in as fillers. No fun for you if you are the "filler"............This happened to me where an agency which held my cv aproached me and asked me to go for a job that was a stretch for me........afterwards I realised that I never really was in with a chance. However, I learned from it! I did have to waste a day's holiday though......

Posted By Graeme I have had nothing but good experiences with recruitment consultants/agencies.
Having finished my honours degree I signed up to a couple, job opportunities came flooding in before i even had my results and I got offered several good jobs in no time at all.
Recruitment Consultants/Agencies can only do as good as the qualifications and experience of the person they are trying to find a position for.
If you have poor qualifications and limited experience then there is very little out there in the form of entry level H&S jobs and people probably expect to much from them as without the goods your not going to get a job.
The consultant that found me the job that I decided to accept, and got me started within 2weeks was;
Redland Consulting
Jenny Johnson - 01926 883973
She was great, very communicative and ultimately found me the perfect job.
Regards
Graeme
