Posted By Umer P Hi,
Someone who is just starting to work in the Health and Safety field or someone who has been involved in it for many years, i.e H&S managers and consultants, what kind of job roles do they have? Is majority of it office work or do you get to go out of the office aswell? And just a question to the people who are involved in this field of work, do you enjoy it? Would you recommend others to get involved if they were slightly interested?

Posted By John P. Leseganich, CPEA Well, after spending 30 years working with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)., I recently retired and have chosen to continue my career as a private safety and health consultant. So, that in itself should tell you that I enjoy the work, and find it very rewarding. I do find that many establishments (not all) put individuals in the position of a safety and health director, or administrator, but put to many other responsibilities on that position or person, not associated with s&h. So, if you are new to the field, and get hired by a corporation, you may find this true. The position of a s&h dirctor should be more of a facilitator, one who guides and supports the entire EHS. Safety and health is every one involved in production responsibility. I can go on, but to summarize, it is a very rewarding (if effective) position. It involves both in office, and on the floor activity. Good luck.
