I hold a Safety Managemament Traininng Course certificate (SAMTRAC) from NOSA INTERNATIONAL SOUTH AFRICA, and a SAFETY HEALTH ADVISORS TRAINING COURSE (SHATCO)from NATIONAL SOCIAL SECURITY AUTHORITY,ZIMBABWE. I would like to know their comparison and points if any to NEBOSH.SAMRTAC is 14 days followed by theory exam and a workplace project.SHATCO is a four weeks course with an exam at the end of first two weeks if you fail you do not procceed to the next two weeks and before porceeding to the final two weeks there is a two weeks break which you must complete a workplace project which contributes to the final results. Please help i have spent a lot of money in course fees and now i am being told only NEBOSH opens the closed doors.

It probably depends in which country u are working or in which country u want to work.

I doubt if NEBOSH would be recuired in SA, Botswana, Zim, Namibia or even if they knew NEBOSH exists.

But in the northern parts of africa, middle east, europe NEBOSH is accepted as the norm.

Let me know if you find out more.

Hi Vusi,

I'm interested in seeking a move out to Dubai, been on holiday loved it, what's the prospects like for a NEBOSH Dip 2 holder with 6 years experience in H&S and 22 years experience in engineering?

Thanks for your help.

Vusi,
We have seen the NOSA courses on occasions here at IOSH but I have not come across SHATCO. The NOSA course would not usually be accepted as an equivalent level to the NEBOSH Certificate, if the SHATCO builds on this then it could be of a similar level to the Certificate. This is of course only a speculation as I haven't seen the course content. Although the length of the course has some relevance in these matters it doesn't always follow that the content is of the same depth.
We normally put courses through our international academic comparisions system before making any final judgements on qualifications.
The NEBOSH and British Safety Council courses that are now being offered outside of the UK do offer known levels of education as they are recognised by the formal education system of the UK. This actually gives them an advanced standing in some areas which recognise our system. Unfortunately although courses delivered in other countries are often as good as the UK offerings they will not compare well as they aren't delivered by recognised educational bodies.

Hazel,
The following is what we were examined on at the end of SHATCO part 1 (first two weeks):FIRE AND SAFETY SURVEY(PRACTICAL AND WRITTEN),LECTURE DEMONSTRATION (PRACTICAL LECTURE PRESENTATION)AND FINAL WRITTEN EXAMINATION.

On the last two weeks, which is SHATCO PART TWO we were examined on the following:ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION CASE STUDY (25),TOTAL LOSS CONTROL APPLICATION(25),RISK MANAGEMENT CASE STUDY (25),PROJECT REPORT (25),LECTURE DEMONSTRATION (PRACTICAL LECTURE PRESENTATION) AND FINAL WRITTEN EXAMINATION(375).In brackets are the total marks given to each catergory.

I only mentioned the examinations taken, i did not mention the modules as i am waiting for someone to e-mail me the detailed course programme which i will forward to you.
