Posted By John T I find myself in a bit of a dilemma and was hoping that someone on here could advise.
I have served in the Army for the last 20+ years and have now embarked on my rocky path towards becoming an H&S professional.
I sat my NEBOSH General Certificate in May, which I passed with a credit, and have booked myself on the Fire and Risk Management Course in November, which I will hopefully pass also.
Planning next years fun filled studies, I would like to embark on the Environmental Diploma, is there any down side to completing this qualification rather than the "normal diploma route".
My other question is that I am currently funding my education by working for myself (in a non H&S environment) as I have not been able to find a job which would allow me the time off for personal development courses, will this have an adverse effect on gaining employment when qualified, e.g. qualified but no experience?
Advice would be most helpful as these courses are not cheap and I am trying to avoid costly mistakes.
Thanks,
John

Posted By Hazel Harvey John, If you are considering joining IOSH at some point in your career you should bear in mind when choosing your higher level qualification whether it is accredited by IOSH. If you are referring to the NEBOSH Environmental Diploma here then it isn't. Some of the higher level courses offered by the HE sector have integrated programmes which are IOSH accredited so it might be worth having a look at these before you decide. They are listed in about membership on the left hand side of this page. Which ever qualification you choose good luck. Hazel Harvey Director of Professional Affairs
