Posted By Kerry I'm currently working as a Clerical Officer/PA in Manchester, and am in my 3rd week of NEBOSH General Certificate (self funding). I'm looking for a position that can utilise both of these aspects. Are you looking for a PA who can also get involved with the Health and Safety aspect of your business? In the long run I'm looking to move over to a purely H&S career, so if you can offer career progression, I want to work for you! Please feel free to email me at monkeyplucker@btinternet.com. Thank you for your time Kerry

Posted By Medusa Hi Kerry, that is how I started a few years ago - went back to college a few years ago and self-funded NEBOSH. Coming from a construction backround and having done numerous site secretary/ admin jobs on site, I decided H&S was the way I wanted to go. Don't know if you are interested in Construction H&S but would recommend maybe keeping up to date with any contracts coming off in the area and/ or getting in touch with contractors starting off on jobs in Manchester (should be loads). I found a company doing a road scheme down the road from me and sold myself as H&S and admin rolled into one. From experience, most people would jump at it as site staff tend not to have the time to cover all the paperwork that goes with H&S and it's a good way of getting to know how the system works. The money might not be great but you're getting that all important first job, the experience that we all need starting out and site experience.
Apologies if you've thought of this already and it sounds patronising but maybe the same advice could be applied to local councils/manufacturing etc. Keep at it and the very, very best of luck

Posted By Christian try approaching alec finch risk services in manchester, themis support in altrincham, or your local insurance brokers they often seek H&S support people and its a great way to gain experience across a variety of industries and sizes, and also see the commercial perspective and learn about risk management as a whole - ask for the H&S Directors there. hope this helps regards christian
