There are oppurtunities for work once a person has the General Cert.

The majority of these are in an admin role, which would give an individual the opportunity to develop their experience under the guidance of (hopefully) an established professional. Most of these positions for newly qualified at fairly low pay, increasing with experience.

The General Cert is 'recognised' as the base level qualification within the industry, and is a good foundation to start a career with.

However there are people in the work place with a General Cert and experience that are running H&S departments.

I would like to wish anyone who contemplates the General Cert or any other H&S qualification(either self funded or sponsored) all the very best and would welcome their contribution to this interesting vocation.
