About 10 days ago a thread of the above title was posted on this forum, although the initial posting was a complaint following the removal of another thread the subsequent discussions were not and many questions were asked of IOSH with regards to IOSH policy and the effect of the changes to the rules on posting certain ad's on the careers forum.

This thread was then also removed by the moderators and a message left stating that the moderators were discussing how best to respond to the thread, see the following:

http://www.iosh.co.uk/in...um=2&thread=25047&page=1

I have contacted the moderators offline who initially stated that they had forgotten about the deeper discussion and that they would now look into it, that was over a week ago, and now the moderators are not even responding to direct emails on the subject!

This is NOT an exercise about complaining, or having a go at IOSH or anything of that nature, it is purely IOSH members requesting information from their institution in order to have an open debate.

Examples of the topics raised included:

- Has there been a noticeable increase in revenue received by IOSH from SHP job adverts since the new rules on the careers forum were introduced

- What does IOSH think about having a members only paid job ad section on this website

- Does IOSH believe that the changes made are in the best interests of the individual members (as opposed to IOSH as a corporate body)

- What would be the extent of the increase in membership subs if free advertising were allowed for members on this site

- Is IOSH aware that other professional institutions openly allow members to post details of job vacancies, and details of their skills base etc particularly where certain specialists and experts need to make other members aware of their skills base. Therefore does IOSH not believe that the rules are stifling the ability of its members to actively network with one another.

There were many other points raised, many of which I have forgotten, but perhaps the moderators could now respond to the above and the other points raised by its valued members.

Looking forward to an interesting debate, though I respectfully ask that the moderators allow this to continue and that members keep their comments clean!

Hi Dave,

Many thanks for your message. I’m sorry there has been some miscommunication regarding the removal of a previous thread. Our moderating team always ensure that forum users are notified, either by private email or by a message on the forums when a thread has been removed. However if this hasn’t happened in your case I sincerely apologise.

Please be aware that the moderating team are volunteer members of IOSH, possibly like yourself, who donate their time for free. This does mean that on occasion they are not immediately available to respond to direct queries from discussion forum users. However, if you ever need clarification on a moderation decision please feel free to contact us at webteam@iosh.co.uk and we’ll be happy to look into this for you.

Unfortunately the issue of advertising revenue and SHP magazine is an IOSH policy matter and therefore the correct place to discuss these issues is in the IOSH Members forum. I’d therefore encourage you to open a new thread in this forum to discuss the issues you’ve raised with other IOSH members.

In case you're not sure, you can request access to this forum by first logging into the discussion forums, and then selecting 'members forums' in the section links panel on the right of your screen.

On the next screen you will be given a description of the available members forums. Just click 'join here' next to the appropriate forum and fill out the short application form.

Please note that we are required to verify the membership status of all applications to these forums, and this is a manual process. As a result there may be a short delay in your application and you receiving confirmation that your application was successful.

Many thanks,

Neal Clark, Web Co-ordinator.

Thank you for your response.

I understand what you are saying, but experience has shown that by moving such discussions to the members only site will result in the thread suffering a long and lingering death, as very few members ever both to visit and participate in discussions on that particular forum.

I would be happy for IOSH to post a response to the members forum for each of the points raised, which I sincerely hope that they will do, but lets at least keep this discussion here where people may actually participate!

I also appreciate that the moderators do give up their own time free of charge and often have a difficult job, hence why I left it for about a week before originally contacting them, and then about another week before making the above posting.

Dave and other members forum users. I have started a me thread on the members forum to try and get this answered as fully as we can. Think we all should look at this issue and try to finally put it to bed.

Hi all,

I’m pleased to see that this thread is now continuing in the IOSH member’s forum, many thanks. Unfortunately our AUGs do state that IOSH business matters must be discussed in the member’s only area and not on the public forum, and I’m therefore required to lock this thread:

AUG 6. If you want to discuss internal IOSH business matters, for example, membership and policy issues, you should raise them in the IOSH Members Forum. All IOSH members can use this forum.

Dave, if you’re an IOSH member I would encourage you to request access to this forum so that you can contribute to the ongoing thread. Please see my previous post for instructions if you’re unsure how to do this.

Many thanks,
