Good morning all!

Is anyone else getting a little worn down by the results and interpretation of the CDM07 ACOPs?

All the talk is of competence when the issue of competence has been with us since 1992...

The new ACOPs mentions EXAMPLES of construction competence being on the CDM co-ordinator's register operated by the APS - the criteria of which is unknown at the moment & which doesn't exist until April 07...

The new ACOPs mentions AN EXAMPLE of health & safety competence being the NEBOSH Construction Certificate - an academic qualification that only offers an introduction of health & safety knowledge in the construction industry - it's brother, the General Certificate has long since been removed as the benchmark for the competent health & safety position in a workplace on the basis that it is purley an academic qualification and just because you can read & write about a subject, this doesn't make you competent!

Why then, when I'm applying to industry for a job (I have 10 years construction experience, 2 years as a Planning Supervisor and am CMIOSH) do they want me to meet the above two criteria before they even take a look at me?

Is industry competent?
Am I wrong?
Are these requirements not a step backward?
Isn't the CDM c role supposed to be a corporate one?

...and we haven't even got onto 'sufficient knowledge of the design process'!!!

Chill..........The new regs are OK, easier to apply and need to reinforce competence because that is the missing link - in a lot of cases anyway.

The CDM-C role is something i look forward to undertaking as part of a national team in my organisation.

You had your chance to submit your opinion during the CD period, you may have done so but either way we can't change it now - not for another 10-12yrs anyway!!

No hard feelings fellow PS.

Regards, Steve
