Posted By Roy McGraa I am retiring from the RAF this year and have begun the process of applying for alternative careers in Health, Safety and Environmental Management. I am qualified at NEBOSH Diploma level and my experience is within Telecomms and IT. I have a great Telecomms/IT Management CV but I need to adapt it for the Health and Safety sector. If you have left the Services recently and have successfully transferred your military skills and experience into full time H&S Management please could I have a look at your CV? Thank you in advance.

Posted By Glyn Atkinson My only advice would be to become pro-active to civilian phrases and styles of working, not using military jargon or acronyms, and not expecting "too much - too soon" from directors and senior managers from your safety findings. The system of putting things right in civilian life is probably totally different and alien from the well laid down procedures in the services. I would expect any military man or woman to be very well organised, literate and well presented in any interview situation, therefore giving them a head start for attainment of safety positions. Best of luck.

Posted By Roy McGraa Thank you to all those ex servicemen (RAF, Army and Royal Navy) who have responded by email and on this thread. It is somewhat reassuring to hear that many of you have successfully transfered your military skills, experience and NEBOSH qualifications into equally rewarding civilian careers within Health and Safety. I hope to join you soon. Kind regards. Roy.
