I am currently employed as a facilities manager for a manufacturing company. Health & safety at work is a large part of this role. I have my NEBOSH general certificate and am investigating the NEBOSH National diploma with a view to developing a career in health and safety at work.
The only way I can study for the diploma is via distance learning. Does anyone have any thoughts on the wisdom of this plan? Also any recommendations for course providers? I've spoken to RRC training who appear very good.

Be under no illusion that the dip is a huge progression from the cert; having so said, it would set you up very well indeed with your present position and one of which I would have thought would be excellent to have in your position of FM and is 'possibly' likely to give an increase in salary.

All the best to you.

Hi Ken,

Would you consider moving employment to one that provides funding and assistance in studying for a NEBOSH diploma. I currently have one role doing exactly this. Please contact me on 01727 817645 or e-mail your CV quoting MF0705-96(IOSH) if you would be interested in this type of opportunity.

Thanks

Mark

I used RRC and found them to be very good. You can study at your own pace, the tutors are on the other end of a phone or email, the revision workshops were very useful and I managed to pass the old dip 2 with them.

I've never used RRC but have heard good things. Also someone told me that the Open University now offer a course in H&S. Check this out. If it's correct I would strongly recommend them. I did a law degree with them some years ago and it was excellent, the course materials were first rate.

Good luck

RRC will supply you with excellent course materials.
But they haven't got a clue when it comes to admin.

I got the details of my written exams from Nebosh. When I phoned RRC to ask for the times and dates of the practical, they told me that it had already been held. Further investigation showed that they had sent all the details to the wrong address.

Their error cost me the original £60 for NEBOSH registration fees, 6months wait for the next set of national exams, and another £100 to reregister with NEBOSH and pay for the practical exam with a competent training provider.

My advice would be to stay well clear of RRC. Not only clueless but also indifferent.

Try WATA.
