Posted By Peter Longworth Firstly can I say thank you for taking the time to read this post. I am 53 years old and have been involved in health and safety since 1979, as a safety representative, departmental manager and currently, as a full time health and safety adviser for 3 sites in the northwest of England. Throughout this period my enthusiasm for maintaining good health and safety standards has remained undimmed. I consider myself to be very much a team player, with good communication skills and this is reflected in my current role which involves dealing with members of staff at all levels within the company from senior managers and directors to employee representatives etc. During this I consider it to be vital that an even handed approach is adopted. As mentioned above at present I am employed by a large manufacturing company as a Health and Safety Advisor to 3 sites in Lancashire. My main duties include • Providing advice on all aspects of health and safety such as legal compliance, safe systems of work, risk assessment, risk management, control measures etc • Providing training in risk assessment, manual handling, accident prevention and investigation, DSE assessment, permits to work, working at height • Conducting complex risk assessments such as workplace transport etc • Conducting fire risk assessments • Collecting, collating and analysing accident statistics in order to identify trends and high risk areas. • Formulating health and safety procedures • Auditing health and safety procedures • Liaising with external auditors • Managing accident prevention teams • Providing health and safety statistics to the executive and to all departments • Assisting the environmental Co-ordinator in auditing environmental procedures to ISO 14001 • Assisting the quality Manager in auditing quality procedures to ISO 9001/2000 I am a graduate member of IOSH and hope to achieve chartered status in April 2008. In addition I have recently been accepted as examiner by NEBOSH at general certificate level. The reason that I am posting this information is that I am at risk of redundancy due to a site closure, and therefore am looking for new opportunities. If anyone is interested please get in touch
