Posted By chris m Hi, I am currently studying for the nebosh diploma, and i was thinking of asking around local companys to see if i could offer them some free health and safety advice (within my competence of course). I have seen this recommended to others as a good way of gaining practical experience to those who are studying but do not yet work in health and safety. The question i have is could there be any legal complications? not that i propose to give any bad advice or advise beyond my competence. I cannot gain this experience with my current employer but really want to start putting into practice the knowledge i have gained from my studies so far. any advice would be much appreciated.

Posted By CFT Chris If the company that you are to offer assistance is prepared to cover professional indemnity (PI) insurance and can extend the PL to cover you then I would say you would be OK. Conditions however (as always) on PI are fairly strict and you would need to comply. it is not easy, i can assure you but I sincerely hope you are able to develop your core knowledge further by offering voluntary help to others. Lord knows, there are plenty out there that could do with some help. good luck and all the best with your eventual result. CFT
