Posted By Simon Creasey I am currently serving in the RAF, leaving March 2008, and would like any sort of advice and general guidance relevant to the health and safety sector. I have recently gained my risk assessors, managing safely, and manual handling instructors qualifications and have booked myself onto a NEBOSH general certificate for October. Hopefully I will also have the opportunity to complete my NEBOSH national diploma in Safety and health in february 2008 with exam in July. My current H&S role within my work place is the health and safety representative. This entails risk assessments, near misses and COSHH assessments. I suppose the question i need answering is that will the above be enough to secure employment in the public sector and is there any other courses that i should take a look at. Any advice is better than none thanks Simon Creasey

Posted By CFT Simon You seem to have it all planned well; if there is a particular industry you would prefer then 'maybe' some further course/exam suited to that desire may be worth considering. I have been actively involved with several ex military over this last 12 months and I am delighted to say that they have all secured positions in H&S in an industry they wanted to be in. CV is all important, to get in the door, and please don't forget just how much experience counts for in securing that position. It may be that you may be better taking a quality support position to gain some valuable experience whilst enjoying a level of mentoring. With best wishes to you for your H&S future. CFT
