Posted By CFT I'll stick my neck out a bit and state that many favour experience and this is a key element for gaining employment; all IMO. Good luck CFT

Posted By craig b hartley thx all i'd certainly agree cft it seems experience is more important than qualifications, thankfully someone seen the benefit of the diploma, even if it is only a temporary contract. would experience be enough if hse inspectors visited? yes anon its a university iosh verified diploma, in speaking with an iosh member they have agreed that the BA is of no benefit to me. 2 and a half years of study and £4000 to now find the nebosh cert would have ben enough for some, soul destroying! :)

Posted By Richie H Craig, I dont believe you have wasted those 2 years at all. Competence is not only experience, qualifications also play a role in attaining such competence. Also, you have proven abilities in learning and acedemic study, i am sure these will benefit depending on the role you choose. Additionally, the Diploma will, if you wish, probably provide you an easier route to gain Charter Membership of IOSH. This is something many prospective employers appear to be requesting. Good Luck

Posted By CFT Craig It is a funny old world, experience counts greatly in industry, often above qualifications pro rata to the candidate; you bring into the equation the HSE, now that one depends greatly on how they view the situation. One would be expected to be competent, this of course would be with qualifications to whatever degree & experience (not degree per se, just degree as in angle)so it does vary on what side of the fence ones egg firmly lands. As I said, funny ol world. CFT

Posted By craig b hartley CFT the reason i asked that was that i worked for a fairly large printing company, where i was the safety representative one of my colleagues had a serious accident, the HSE came into investigate they found that the HS manager had only done a 3 day manual handling course with no other qualifications but had been a manager for over 30yrs, the company got hit for a 6 figure compensation payout + all the other costs that go along with it. As they had no defence for having someone who was not competent and they were made to either train this person or employ a competent person which they promptly did. cheers craig
