I am looking for some help from the good folks on the forum.
I have been seriously entertaining the thought of working in Dubai/UAE and have recently applied for one or two positions.
I have been contacted by several agencies that have informed me i meet all the critera for the positions advertised and i now need to forward a fee in order for them to forward my application. My question, is this normal practice? are there more reputable agencies i should be looking to use and some to steer clear from?
I have been working in construction and manufacturing at all levels, through to senior management, i have been H&S advisor for the last 7 years for a construction/manufacturing company.
I have the Nebosh cert, and i am currently working towards Nebosh diploma having succesfully completed Module A, i have all the usual experience and training in Accident investigation, manual handling, training programs, train the trainer etc. Would this be adequate for a position in the UAE.
I would be looking to relocate with quite a young family so i hope everyone can understand my reservations about diving in feet first.

Hi Garry,
First tip do not pay anyone for finding you a job. There are many agencies who can help for free.
I will send details to your personal email on a agency in the UK who have helped recruit 2 Health and Safety Managers for me recently.
As for moving to Dubai check out some of my previous postings as they may help you.
PS. Dubai is great for family life.

You might keep an eye on the following website which is in Dubai http://www.drydocks.gov.ae/ They occasionally have vacancies for HSE and currently have QC vacancies, and the jobs are very well paid.
I tried a few years ago, but they are looking for younger people (usually under 40 years old) which isn't me.
If your background is Oil and Gas, you will stand a good chance.

Waynes advise on the money side is good, dont part with any information, i.e. bank account details etc or money for jobs.
However, be careful when being offered positions in Dubai as whilst there are many wonderful things to do and see, there are also many aspects that may not suit everyone, heat, humidity,culture, housing is rare and getting more expensive. Travelling and the traffic should improve over the coming years with the new metro. Cost of living needs to be considered with schooling fee, utilities and rents that can rise alarmingly.
I am sure not all will agree with my comments however just my tuppenceworth to help

Hi Garry,
I would echo Wayne's advice.
Whilst agencies are entitled to request you to pay upfront, I would strongly suggest that you do not.
There are enough of us (agencies) in the UK who work in the UAE who can offer you suitable positions without the need for you to pay to register with us. At the end of the day we want to attract you to our clients, I can't see that you paying up front is that attractive!
