Hello

I need advice/guidance please.
I have a basic IOSH managing safely certificate. I am increasingly involved in H& S issues and need to know what to do next. Should I go the IOSH or NEBOSH route?

Your advice please.

Many thanks Rosemary

IOSH do provide some excellent courses, one of which you have already; your next step however would be NEBOSH which will be by formal examination, either general certificate, construction or fire, oh and international, this will get you up to level 3 then the choice is yours, level 3 will with appropriate experience in terms of time served would entitle you to become a 'tech' member of IOSH, of course you would need to join first.

So one is an institution for membership purposes (among many other things) and nebosh is the 'national examination board for occupational safety and health.

Hope that answers your question satisfactorily/

All the best

Hi Rosemary,

If you are really interested in further pursuing a career in Health and Safety I would recommend a longer term coure which will obtain you professional status with IOSH (see CFT's comments). However I Just wouldn't consider NEBOSH, the British Safety Council and many Universities do professional certificates and diplomas etc that are IOSH accredited and these can be studied in numerous ways depending on your circumstances.

Good Luck

Hi Rosemary,

Just like you i did the iosh managing h & s and then went on to do NVQ level 3 in occupatinal health and safety.

NVQ training gave me two years hands on exprienced which proved invaluable to gain my first health and safety role.

Good luck Tom

Many thanks All for the good advice.
I will pursue the NEBOSH route as I think this best fits my own as well as company needs.

I guess next question is...any one have any opinions on where the best place is to take the course. Ive seen a lot of adverts, but would prefer to work the course with a reputable and respectable provider.

Any thoughts?

Off to the Nebosh site with you; you will find all the details for provision on there. From a personal thought, check with your local college, they are less expensive than a corporate entity and is an excellent way to take it on a day per week basis.

Good luck
