Hi All,

Has anyone had any experience doing the Post Grad Diploma in OH & SM with Loughborough Uni?

http://www.lboro.ac.uk/d...goccupationalhealth.html

On initial investigation it seems to be a good blend of distance learning and taught modules, run over a year starting each feb, you can do the full MSC, Diploma or Cert by completing various modules. Just looking to speak with someone who has "been there and done that" looking for feedback either pos or neg.

On a broader question, being relativly new to HSE (coming from OH) I'm being advised by every man and his dog to do the NEBOSH diploma trouble is, following doing the cert I'm not keen on the way NEBOSH do things (it seems to me the phraseology is more important than the content and it felt like I was being taught to pass the exam rather than learning what I needed for the job), The OJT I've recieved since has been far more valuable. Therefore I'm looking at Loughborough as an alternative.

Whats the general industry feeling ? would a Diploma from somewhere like Loughborough Uni be as acceptable as the NEBOSH ? And finally are there any other recomended alternatives, bearing in mind I work overseas so day release is out....

Thanks in advance

Ian

Ian,
I completed the Loughborough Universtity(CHaRM)course in 2005 and thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. Initially, I was only planning to go as far as the diploma but then signed up for the MSc, and again that was a very challenging but rewarding experience.

Looking back it was probaly one of the best decisions I was told I had to make, and when it was all over I actually missed it, sad eh.
Regards,
Paul.

Personally I'd rate someone with the Loughborough diploma higher than aomeone with the NEBOSH diploma, all other things being equal.

To see if they are equal qualifications - the best way is to ring up IOSH and see what they say... e.g. if you will get Grad IOSH through it. If you can - then employers will recognise the Grad IOSH even if they don't necessarily recognise the name of the qualification.

Hope that helps.
