Looking to start out in the field in middle age!

I am a 50 year old guy, had a 25 year career in the printing industry but due to many changes therein find myself without a career but still a lot of work left in me. How realistic is it to get into the health and safety industry at this stage? I am looking into starting the National General Certificate this month and hope to go from there. I have heard there is plenty of work in the industry particularly on a self-employed basis rather than working for a company. Any feedback welcomed. Would also appreciate some agency contacts as I really am starting out green!

Yes, there is plenty of work with H&S.
However just passing a NEBOSH Gen would not necessarily get you a job working as a consultant, unless you have had many years working within a H&S environment.
I'm 37 and have worked with H&S for over 15 years and I've my ISOH membership etc and I still do not feel ready to enter the world of the self employed.
If you can take a bit of a pay cut, try and get an admin roll to start with if you have no H&S skills
