A health and safety advisor may be appointed as the CDM co-ordinator for the project but in general he is just that, an advisor. In general a health and safety advisor will be employed by a construction company either full time or as a consultant to give general H&S advice about how safety on a site is managed. As I said earlier a CDM co-ordinator will be appointed by a client, not necessarily a construction company, to oversee all the H&S and procedural aspects of a CDM project including co-ordinating the activities of designers, principal contractor and any sub-contractors.
