Posted By Paul Harrison Hi all, Got a job interview this Friday and have to give a presentation as follows: "What challenges face H&S enforcement services and how would you respond to them" I have come up with what I think are the most likely challenges e.g. Lack of officers in EA's, Lack of adequate resources, Consistency of approach, S18 review and its implications, HS priority in LA's as opposed to other issues, increased migrant workforce and changing economy etc etc. Sorry for short notice but only got letter informing me of interview this morning!! Any additional factors from anyone, enforcers or otherwise will be gratefully received. Many Thanks in advance. Paul

Posted By holmezy Paul, How about the public perception of the HSE AS "nanny state", "conkers bonkers" etc due to stupid decisions made by others and poor reporting? I think its fair to say that a lot of Companies also have this impression, not only of the inspectors, but H+S in general. Lots of potential for education there perhaps! HSE are always percieved as the bad guys when an Inspector calls, however, they can, and very often do, offer very good advice and direction, as to improvements that could be made, rather than those that must be made. At the end of the day, they have a job to do, and along with us H+S bods are trying to improve things for all. "We" are certainly not doing this job because we like upsetting people!!! or are we? No, surely not!! Holmezy Soon be beer time.

Posted By richard1 May I suggest you turn around the word "challenges" in a positive light. From what you have said you refer to this word in the negative. Your interviewer may want to hear what challenges they have in the future in terms of positive action/initiatives they have ahead of them Cheers Richard

Posted By Lilian McCartney Hi Paul, I would concentrate on how you would overcoem them as this is where you can show your positive attitude, depth of knowledge etc etc. Lilian

Posted By garyh Agree with above; also, how long is the presentation? 5 mins or 55 mins makesa vast difference. What facilities? Are you expected to use Powerpoint, blackboard.......?? Target audience (eg may be others present, eg HR who are not "safety"). Don't be afraid to phone and ask these things!!

Posted By Paul Harrison Gary The presentation is only 10 mins (wish it was 30 mins as it would be a lot easier!!). Only 2 interviwers, Service Head & Senior both OSH aware so I can't blag it!!. The position I'm going for is also a senior post, so I am looking at stategic issues as well. Cheers Paul
