Hi all
I'm considering doing the Nottingham and Trent diploma in Safety Management and Environmental health.
I live in Blackpool in the North West of England and i can't seem to find anywhere that delivers the course.
Any help would be appreciated.
Also if anyone could give me advice if the NEBOSH Diploma may be the better option?
The reason i chose the Nottingham and Trent one is with the added bit of Environmental health

Andy,
Wigan and Leigh College also offer this NTU Diploma. The full contact details are in 'about membership' to the left of this posting. Look in Graduate Membership.

I studied at MANCAT in Manchester. A bit of a distance for you to travel but there was at least one student who lived in Blackpool doing the course.
The big advantage to me with NTU Diploma over Nebosh is that the course was modular. So you do each module together with assignments and then 'put it to bed'. Of course it also meant there were 7 separate exams against just one for Nebosh. So it's a case of what is your preference. The environmental modules were also very interesting and I believe these have been further developed since I passed the NTU Diploma in 2003.
Good luck with your quest.

The NEBOSH Diploma is modular now as well. There are three taught units, each assessed by an examination, and an assignment which requires you to apply knowledge from across the whole syllabus to a workplace.
The enrolment period is 5 years, so you can spread your course and/or the assessments over that period and do it at your own pace. For more information and details of course providers see the NEBOSH web site at www.nebosh.org.uk

As to which one to do, I would personally recommend the NTU Diploma over NEEBOSH.
Why, well the NTU is easier and at the end of the day you are (probably) looking for a qualification to get you CMIOSH rather then being inundated with facts and figures that you will mostly forget shortly after qualifying.
(For all the NEEBOSH qualified people out there, this isn't a criticism of their diploma, it's a fact of education in general.)

Hi Andy,
I did the NTU at MANCAT (Manchester) and completed it in 2004. Although enjoyable, the environmental management bit doesn't seem to count for much. I would recommend the NEBOSH diploma because if you look at the adverts in SHP they are obviously written by HR people who know nothing about health, safety and respective qualifications.
It is not uncommon to see an advert requiring 'IOSH Diploma'. Sadly many of these people hear the word NEBOSH and cannot see past it to other qualifications. I think it is more important to get chartered membership of IOSH under your belt. Good luck either way.
Michael
