Posted By John william ronald Ward Since being made redundant in June last year i have been trying to find out what new career would suit me best. I have been a foreman and more recently factory manager in a small upvc windows & doors company, I have always taken on the role of health and safety person in my workplace although i have no health and safety qualifications.I am now thinking of going to night school to study for a national general certificate in occupational safety and health(NEBOSH) so my question would be is this a good option to help try and start a new career in this field. I work in the day and the course is free at my local collage

Posted By Karen Todd Fab opportunity - go for it! I started out doing my cert part time at tech, 1 night a week for a year. Liked it, went on to do diploma, got into H&S full time, rest is history. Try & get a really good network going with your class - swap e-mails and try to arrange visits to each others work places. I got a job through someone my diploma class! KT

Posted By JimE Hi All, Gotta disagree with Guderian. I've been H&S in this little factory for 3 years. Started out with no quals and now have IOSH & NVQ 4, 1st. Aid, Defib, Man Han Trainer and am lookin at some sort of in-house Fire safety trainer. The job is constantly challenging and character building with having to cope with employees, employers, H&S Exec and everyone else who knows me :) Go for it John.

Posted By Guderian We'll see if you change your mind in a few years time after - endless excuses why h&s wrong - over reaction by people at all levels 'cos elf & safety' have said so'... - constant trivial questions about RIDDOR, PAT testing etc (see this forum) need I go on
