Posted By Barry Bruce I was wondering if anyone can help with reviewing my CV. I am currently on the market for a new job have recently re-written it after looking at a few websites for assistance. Im not sure on CV length either. In the past I have used 2 pages with a covering letter but some say a CV should be able to fit on a single page (not sure how this is possible but hey!). Anyway, any assistance/ advice would be appreciated. Cheers

Posted By Adam Worth I learnt there are many different types of CV :) A one page CV is useful as an overview but lacks the detail many employers require. My CV is currently 3 pages!!! This is on the recommendation of employers at interview and the RSC careers advisor. Start with a single sentence that sums you up - this is the most important bit of all! Then decide what your strengths are and try to demonstrate them in a clear way. I am vague with this as you may want to focus on academic strengths or experience. I hope this helps, email me and you are welcome to a copy of my CV :) www.totaljobs.com gives some good advice too. (Oh and my CV has so far got me interview at each job I have applied for so it can't be too bad :) - OK so that's only 3 recently but hey)

Posted By graham engel Barry, if you would like me to take a look at your cv i would be happy to. i have a little experience with cv's as i, like many ex forces people, attended a workshop that taught you the do's and donts. in my experience the opening paragraph is the part that gets your cv read. you should make this between 3 and 4 lines. ensure that you stand out by using kpi words within the sentences. from here the layout is the next important part. start with the heading 'career progression' and put in your job title date from and to then continue with bullet point sentences of your responsibilities. DO NOT repeat these if you can help it. do the same for education and finally your interests. keep it all on 2 pages. after all if its more than 2 then you need to be something special not to make file 13. i hope this helps, it helped me and i am happily employed. good luck.
