Posted By Steven McLaughlin Hi all, looking for general pointers relating to starting out in the Health & Safety sector. After being appointed the H&S rep in my office and being put through the basic "IOSH Working Safely" cert I have decided to build on it and will shortly begin studying towards the NEBOSH General certificate. Assuming things go to plan I will would hope to have completed this by December and wondered if anyone could give any advice on what my next steps should be i.e who are the biggest employers, best companies to start out with, should I be writing to people beforehand etc? Any advice appreciated. Cheers

Posted By Paul The NEBOSH gen cert is a really good starting point. I began my H&S career with the CIEH courses then went and done the NEBOSH cert. I was lucky to be in a position where I was in a low level H&S position for a very large company. This gave me the opportunity to experience the day to day aspects of H&S in a true live environment. My advice to you for what it is worth is to look for a low level position where they will develop your skills and knowledge as a H&S professional. H&S positions can be very isolated so I think that it will be important for you to have someone or a team to support you within your natural progression. Best of luck
