I am new to IOSH although not new to H&S.
I will be starting the NEBOSH Gen Cert in a couple of weeks. I have already purchased past papers and seem to be doing ok going through them. My answers seem to be what the examiners are looking for in their reports. I have to say at this point I am a H&S Rep, I also am partly responsible for risk assessments at my place of work and also occasional accident investigation, so not totally ignorant of H&S. I have also been reading books recommended to me on here.
The point of this post is just to say it’s a great help knowing all of you out there are very willing to help. I have read posts about not being able to gain employment although qualified. I don’t expect to walk into a job but I think I will be ok. (I am being made redundant Sept 09.
I think if I restrict myself to the South West I might find a few difficulties, but my options are open. I love the H&S side of things and cant wait to start the course hopefully qualify and then get out into the H&S world.

Hi Andy,
Good luck with the Cert Course.
A good book to look at is, if you haven't been pointed to it already: Introduction to H&S@W (in full) by Phil Hughes and ed Ferrett, Third Edition. Butterworth-Heinmann, ISBN 978-0-7506-8503-0
It costs a bit but is well worth it for signposting info in the job after the course :)
Regards,
SN

Yeah I already have that. It was recommended to me earlier. I have been reading the book at work and doing past papers at home.
Would anyone recommend joining the IIRSM as a student? I think the more you are into your career the more likely you are to get a decnt job.
