Hi,can someone please give me a bit of advice.I am currently employed as a foreman bricklayer, with over 35 years experience in the trade.I am desperate to get out,and into the health and safety side of the business.I am currently enrolled to do the Nebosh National Certificate, starting in Sep.Is this the right course,or should i be looking at something else. regards daveyg

I would go on & also take the NEBOSH Construction Certificate, with your on site experience you will have a good chance of making a difference in construction with 'sensible' safety.
Good luck.

Like me I started with the NEBOSH cert and then progressed to the Diploma, but as Colin states the Construction Cert would also be good if the Cert doesn't put you off! They are both really valid courses for the career path you want to tread and would compliment your current experience. I don't know your current set up but whilst doing these studies I would try and get more involved with H&S where you are at the moment or rub shoulders with those that control H&S issues...build up your experience and if you produce plans/risk assessments/ any policies then make a record/portfolio of them so that when it comes to that interview you can say what you have achieved by way of experience.Possibly you could organise some toolbox talks or put H&S on the agenda for any site meetings you may have..no matter how short/informal it has a real value. If you are working on a large/multi site your employer might let you take on a site safety role?
Best of luck
Warren

David,
with your background I would, if your provider will allow it, transfer from the General Cert to the construction Cert.
